ok here goes my experience at NUH.
Im running late now, so i'll just post what i can remember. Hehe.
Placement at NUH was fun!! The flipside though, I could not spend those precious six weeks with my attachment jie-meis! (xuanie, jil) So near, yet so far. Haiz.
But, I made new friends. Those people whom I spent six weeks with. It was much better having them around. Being posted to CCU (ala critical care), was a a refreshing experience for me. It was intimidating, initially. It makes you wonder what is it you've been learning these past 3 years because you just don't seem to know anything. For the lack of a better word, I felt stupid in there. And at times, I do feel as though I'm more of a hindrance than of a help.
Fortunately though, the nurse clinicians were amazing. They were fantastic facilitators, making sure we achieve our learning objectives as well as expose us to more acutely ill patients.
And yeah, being in CCU can be heart-breaking. I remember feeding this patient a watermelon one day, and the next, she was intubated. (p.s: it is not due to my watermelon hor!!) Her condition deteriorated further and alas, she passed away. It was sad. Life is so fragile and i feel for her family. And being in CCU requires you have fantastic PR, because the families are anxious ++++.
Oh yeah, i see ECGs until my head spins. Cant really read them thoroughly. At the very least, I'll know if my patient is having an infarct and where is the infarct.
That's all folks. See ya all at graduation.
