10 to 18(th)

Hi all! It's been a long holiday (insert Green Day's Holiday in the background), and for some of us, it's going to be an even longer holiday. The rest of us, the S/G/H ones at least, will be returning to the slaughter house really soon. 18 June (insert funeral song).

The highlight of my break is... that i've gained weight! Yeah i know, so what? People gain weight. But some people gain more weight than others, like me. And some others are turning into Kate Moss, like Zulhilmi. And yay for me, my uniform is not made of spandex or latex or lycra or anything of the stretchable type. So the only thing that's gonna stretch is my layers of fat beneath the stifling hot hot hot green uniform.

Whoa did you guys realise that we're finally gonna get our diplomas? 3 years ago i couldn't figure out what the hell i was doing when i wrote Nursing as my first choice of post-secondary course. 3 years later, i'm still clueless. But i'm going to get a diploma anyway! And so will you! So yay you! I know! I've overused the exclamation marks.

Okay it's 3:22 AM. Bedtime for me. Chicken (Suli) normally sends me text messages around this time. Usually about something that irks her (read: anything to do with N/Y/P). I don't know why she thinks i'm most alive at this time (considering that the majority of the population is asleep at this time) but i reply to her anyway since i'm still awake. Otherwise, i'd just reply to her like 3 days later. HAHA! Okay i'm going to bed now. Need to wake up early for work. Eh what work? I'm still on holiday, nyahaha!

ok here goes my experience at NUH.

Im running late now, so i'll just post what i can remember. Hehe.

Placement at NUH was fun!! The flipside though, I could not spend those precious six weeks with my attachment jie-meis! (xuanie, jil) So near, yet so far. Haiz.

But, I made new friends. Those people whom I spent six weeks with. It was much better having them around. Being posted to CCU (ala critical care), was a a refreshing experience for me. It was intimidating, initially. It makes you wonder what is it you've been learning these past 3 years because you just don't seem to know anything. For the lack of a better word, I felt stupid in there. And at times, I do feel as though I'm more of a hindrance than of a help.

Fortunately though, the nurse clinicians were amazing. They were fantastic facilitators, making sure we achieve our learning objectives as well as expose us to more acutely ill patients.

And yeah, being in CCU can be heart-breaking. I remember feeding this patient a watermelon one day, and the next, she was intubated. (p.s: it is not due to my watermelon hor!!) Her condition deteriorated further and alas, she passed away. It was sad. Life is so fragile and i feel for her family. And being in CCU requires you have fantastic PR, because the families are anxious ++++.

Oh yeah, i see ECGs until my head spins. Cant really read them thoroughly. At the very least, I'll know if my patient is having an infarct and where is the infarct.

That's all folks. See ya all at graduation.

PRCP at AMKH

Okie, I'll get the ball rolling... =)

My PRCP wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I was the only student every shift (except the first and last day). So yeah, pretty lonely...but I got the opportunity to practice whatever skills I could (not many skills to cover in AMKH, though).

Sometimes I felt like I was being thrown into the deep end of the sea...like, when I was asked to take two whole cubicles (which equals to 16 patients) in the second week...and you know, with me and my limited multi-tasking abilities, I swam reallyreallyreally hard, trying to catch my breath at times and at the end of the day, I reach the shore (home) so utterly exhausted.

But it was good...and when it came to night shift, I was given three cubicles. =) Great experience.

Now I realize, that when people recognize and see your capabilities, they give you more responsibilities. Our task is to seize the opportunity instead of whining, and make full use of them. Otherwise, whatever has been given to you in the first place, will eventually be taken away (and this doesn't apply to nursing alone, but life itself)...

Thank God AMKH isn't an acute hospital. Haha...but they really shouldn't send students for PRCP there lah...

Two more weeks for the end of our PRCP signifing the completion of our Nursing course! We'll get thru all this together my peeps!! Hang on & strive! Even better, FLY!
After that then July Graduation. So long. Sheesh.

I'll end this post with this piece of writing of mine.
=)

Graduation is a time
For feeling very proud,
For thinking lots of lovely thoughts
And saying them out loud.

It's a time for feeling appreciation
About to overflow,
And just before it leaps its banks,
To let the intended one know.

And so I'm very proud of you
For being who you are,
For making something of yourself,
For making it this far.

I'm proud because I am somehow a part
Of things you do.
This time's the time to say how much
In gratitude I am with you.

(Note: "you" is refering to each and everyone of the Sixteen-ers)

- For those who know about this please share your knowledge to those who are unaware of this.
- For those who wish to post anything about everything/something you would like the rest of the Sixteen-ers to know about, please feel free to do so.
